The Fid Def does make a huge difference - they got quite excited here in Germany when Victoria of Sweden got married last year - but that's nothing to the hysteria (definitely rivals that of the UK) surrounding tomorrow's nuptials.

I watched David Starkey on the box last nght explaining that for a long time our Royal Family was entirely German, speaking in German, choosing German princesses, bringing in German customs like Christmas trees.

So I wonder how Germans now view our royals: as essentially theirs, or as heretics bringing in British princesses, maybe as a nostalgic link to their past or perhaps just as a very big Soap.

(I suppose it partly depends on how they view Victoria's favourite grandson - Kaiser Wilhelm - mad warmonger or an unfortunate royal.)
